Join us for our Senior High Youth Gathering
February 20-22, 2009

This year’s gathering theme is Connected in Chaos”.   We will explore what it means to walk together with Jesus Christ in a world that is often times chaotic.

Because of a generous partnership with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans we have been able to greatly reduce the cost this year! The cost of the gathering is $95 if you register on or before January 14, 2009

Connecting Through Confirmation

Confirmation, the time when a young person affirms his or her faith, can not only happen in a classroom in your congregation.  In order to fully understand their calling as Christians, confirmands must get out into this world to be the hands, feet, ears and hearts of Christ to others. Our synod’s youth ministry and Liberty Lutheran Services, an umbrella Social Ministry Organization on our territory, believe this so strongly that we have partnered to create hands on learning opportunities for confirmation classes to engage in social ministry.

The ELCA Youth Ministry Network is partnering with the ELCA Gathering office to provide FREE online training for adults who are taking youth to the Gathering in New Orleans next summer.  Check out this GREAT resource at http://elcaymnet.org/onlinetraining .  The Network is also doing bus tours of New Orleans and other things at its annual Extravaganza this year to prepare you for the Gathering.

December Youth of the Month

Jasmine Kent from Redemption Lutheran Church, Philadelphia

Jasmine is a 10th grader at Girl’s High.  Besides playing field hockey for her school, Jasmine is a gifted and creative youth woman, who uses her gifts of trumpet and violin as a member of Redemption’s Jr. Praise Band.  She is also a part of The Networkers, a ministry that is focused on both outreach and building up the Body of Christ within our congregation.  Jasmine has helped out with our NORC leaf-raking community service project, where we do yard work for seniors in the Rhawnhurst area, and is involved in both Sunday School and Sunday morning worship.  Also, this summer Jasmine worked with a group of youth to create and conduct a Youth Community Survey in preparation for Turning Point, a joint outreach ministry to youth that is being birthed out of Redemption and Rhawnhurst Presbyterian Church.  Jasmine attended her first FLY retreat in 2008 and is looking forward to the 2009 National Gathering in New Orleans.
